Sylvanus Griswold Morley (June 7, 1883 – September 2, 1948) was an American archaeologist, epigrapher, and Mayanist scholar who made significant contributions toward the study of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization in the early 20th century.

But he was far more than that. Sylvanus Morley worked for the Office of Naval Intelligence during World War I. He conducted espionage while using his field work as an archeologist as cover. He risked his life multiple times to provide insights into German activities and served with honor, keeping his role secret forever.
